I have heard the following from an E46 M3 owner. "The GTO is no M3, but the BMW is certainly not worth 20k more" and also "If I had to do it over again, I would choose the GTO without hesitation. Performance is similar in most respects, and even better in some, with the reliability of the LS1" (he is a bit jaded as he is on his second engine replacement)
