Umm maybe because we would like a world where our kids can live. Are f'n serious with that comment. I'd like to remain cancer and disease free when I have a glass of water. That is most uneducated comment I have ever read. Apparently you have to clue what is going on with the worlds ecology. Pick up the book, Earth in the Balance by Al Gore. I'm not an Al Gore fan but that book will scare the living SH!t out of you on the condition of out planet. I'm all for the smog testing if we can get the huge Delta 88's with a 10 foot high trail of black smoke. Even our moded cars are pretty clean.

I agree with you Todd about the smokin' Delta 88's out there, actually the early to mid 90's Crown Vics are a bit more representive of "smokin' cars" Also your right about car enthusists, most of us don't let our cars run bad and thus keep the environment clean in the process. I'm doing my part as well, I have an electric lawn mower which is very reliable. That being said though, as far as Al Gore and his book goes, well I haven't read it, but I remember back in high school a big deal was made about the hole in the ozone and now we find out that was a bunch of BS, damn liberals/environmental wackos Its kinda like the anti-SUV crowd "suggesting" we don't need those SUV's. Think about that, they're "suggesting" YOU don't need them. I'm not going to have anyone tell me what to spend MY money on and if my wife wants her 04' Ranier she'll have it and does. Using Al Gore and his book to make your point Todd isn't very credible, remember this "why can't we count all the votes?!" I for one don't believe anything coming out of that guys mouth and let us not forget about his family business...tobacco a HUGE killer!

Newer cars, by and large have virtually nil emissions. A single poorly maintained older car can put out more emissions than a city full of reasonably maintained vehicles.

The situation is hardly as bleak (in regards to auto pollution) as most environmentalists portray. A single volcanic eruption, such as the 1981 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, can put the same, or more, particulate and CO2, and other pollutants into the air as humans have total since the beginning of the industrial revolution in the 1800's.

I actually don't have an issue with emissions testing per se, but I don't like the limits that are set. If appropriate and meaningful limits were set for emissions (as opposed to the arbitrary and excessivily ridiculous limits in places such as CA) then most of our well tuned modified vehicles would have little issue passing, while the true offenders to the envrionment could be weeded out.

Current regulations are much akin to having a lake, and treating a kid that pees in the lake the same as the guy dumping used motor oil into it.

i live in columbus, oh and being the enviro caring republicain i am drive to dayton where the ohio epa requires anyone renweing the plates to get a e-check meaning checking the emmisions of the car. just to have my car checked out. its better to catch things now because those tests can sugest things that you may not know are going bad even with the best car maintence. so im all for smog testing! i can count about 2 dozen cars in my neighborhood that would go to the scrap heap c of it and im all for that.
