Thank you all for the troubleshooting information that you share. Now that my Contour is behaving, I am going to sell it. Any thoughts on what a 95 LX 2.0 liter, auto trans, 137,000 miles is worth? Paint, tires, interior all good.

You can look at Kelly Blue Book or edmunds to find a price to sell your used 'Tour.

I regret to say that even that might be shooting a bit high. Options are essential to the value of the car at this age (power locks/windows, etc.) ... the automatic transmission helps (taking into consideration the average consumer), but the mileage kills ...

I'd be lucky to get that for my '98 with half the miles.

Yeah, but pre98s are better, don't have that stupid vct, and his is a LX so probably has more options than the average GL.

To the general public ... a 1995 is better than a 1998-2000? I'm almost willing to put money down on this it's such a silly statement. To CEG'ers it might be worth more, but not in monetary value since CEG'ers well know what the going rate for a vehicle of that age is.
Like I said above, options will help, but age (it's a Contour, not a Mustang!) and mileage will not.
How much did you pay for your '96 .... two years ago? Subtract a couple thousand from that at least ...

Bibble.
When I sold Mean Green, A duratec, 5 speed, with all the nice stuff other than leather, I got shizzle for it. A 1998 Zetec ATX was going for almost a grand more despite being a Zetec and having 14" plasticaps...
Selling cars really sucks unless you drive an Integra...

Sad to say, but if you want resale value buy a Honda, Acura, LExus, BMW, or Benz.

Yes, a '98 LS with leather, power windows/locks/drivers seat and 70k is infinitely less desireable than a LX with twice the mileage.
C'mon.
