Okay this wasn't a contour problem but... I had just had my then new 00' Explorer for six months. I had just got into Wilmington North Carolina on my way to Myrtle Beach in mid-march for spring break. I had just drove 10 hours myself and I had stopped for breakfast to change into nice clothes to enjoy the nice 75 degree weather. NIcely redressed in sunny warm weather with a full stomach, I'm ready to drive off down the coast to enjoy my vacation. 1st stop light out the driveway of a Checkers, I am stopped. My friend opens my sunroof and the car turns off. OMG like WTF!!!

condensed story...towed POS goes to Cape Fear Ford. 4 days later wasted vacation...problem = faulty gem in the PCM per dealer. Rap up off to Florida for 2nd leg of trip. In Clearwater...deja vu hits. Again driving down the beach road only car turns off while driving 25. Off to be towed: Part 2. Problem: Dealer one used spare part...didnt work. Replaced part. Go home...4 months later. The Explorer unexplainably doesn't shift past 2nd gear in an AUTOMATIC 4-speed. The engine sounds like its a weedwacker and jerks around like an inexperienced person driving a manual. Problem dissipates and reappears. Off to dealer again...fixed. Turn in lease.....new car. Read newspaper...FORD EXPLORER RECALL...PCM module blablabla. Sometimes its your sh*tty luck when you buy a Ford.
