I have had the same problem on my 95 2.0 liter auto trans for a couple of years. I asked for help on this forum and received some good suggestions. While gaining access to inspect the pcv/egr system I noticed that the electrical connector to the intake air temp. sensor had exposed wires. The insulation had cracked on both wires at the connector. I separated the wires and reinsulated them and now the car idles at 1000 rpm no load/750 rpm in drive with the brake on. Hope this helps. From what I have read so far, most anything can cause idle problems on this vehicle; vacuum leaks, cracked exhaust manifold, clogged egr valve, bad sensors, idle air control valve, etc, etc.
