Has anyone attempted to race a BMW M3? I keep trying but the drivers are weak and don't wanna race. I have beaten all other BMW's and the M3 is all thats left. Do I even stand a chance?

I've raced one. It was an automatic convertible and I won up to 55mph. That's hardly a race at those speeds, but I did win. He was ahead of me by 20mph where he could have pulled in front of me, but by the time I wound out second gear, my nose was about 3 feet ahead. Then we both slammed on the brakes for the next red light behind other cars.

I've driven three M3's, a 2dr & a 4dr manual trans and one convertible automatic like I raced. Although being the best automatic I've driven (also driven a 540i w/ same 5-speed auto) it took a lot out of the acceleration.

If you're out and get a chance to race any M3, try. If the driver is unwilling to drive hard (dump clutch) you've got a chance to keep up. Passing would take a lot of luck and a big driver error.

One thing to note: M3 buyers DRIVE. They spend the extra $10k because they know what the car is capable of and will use it. Most regular 3 series owners want the satus and won't spend 33% more if they can 'get in the BMW crowd' for $32k. Since you can get a 325 with the same luzury features as an M for $10k less, they will be satisfied and baby the precious BMW.

An M3? Are you freaking kidding? If the guy driving even tries, he'll wipe you all over the road! The new M3's especially! 300+ horses 6sp-manual, RWD. M3 will win.

I can see whats going to happen to this thread, oh well what the hell, I can pour gas on a fire. AN M3 in my hands would be faster then I could ever hope my tour would be.
There thats said, now this My tour in my hands may be faster the many M3s in the hands of the guy who bought it, has no idea what it is and refuses to use it. Case in point my wifes Jetta Me driving we were getting on the freeway we were right next to M3. light goes green M3 pulls in front fast I got behind and started to push him as the road bends mid turn he breaks??? If I had been in the tour I would have passed his azz, he should have to forfit his car to me right now.
But Like I said you take your tour out run a road coursr then put yourself behind the wheel of the M divisions finest and you will always be faster. Now for the 325,323,328, Happy hunting! more in our league, even with our 10-15k rebate.

TLP,

this reminds me of me and some eager guy in a Tempo. He did win but he was so busy trying that he never noticed me and my wife LOAO I really wanted to see what's it worth... turned out to be about 1/2 of 'tour's go pedal way

I don't think they are selling them yet. I thought after new year is when the start.

Yes, the 2001 model is amazing, but I would make any driver prove their power. Isn't it cool to say, "I saw an M3 do the quarter mile in 13.3 seconds"? I've seen about 15 Vipers on the roads, but only one take off fast and chirp second gear at 65mph - the one I tried to race .

Well said, TLP. Driver skill & experience account for a major part of racing - straight or curvy.

The ATX 'verts is are nothing to write home
about, but if you catch a 98+ M3 MTX, you're
in for an a$$whoopin.

95-97 model years weren't THAT quick, 14.4-
14.6 in the 1/4, 98+ however, run the 1/4
in 14 flat. And they have torque!

Proof? I saw Eric G. (gschomi) run at the
strip with his M3, he accidently shifted from
2nd to 5th, left it in 5th and still ran a
freaking 14.8 @ 92+!!!! SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO
5TH!

Then I got to drive it. A dream come true.
Contour vs. 98+ M3 MTX = no chance in hell.

I raced an M3 and got killed from the start and I couldn't even catch him. I wasn't sure if he was going to race because he didn't rev his engine or look at me. I know his was a manual. Anyway we both eased off the line and then punched it and he was gone right off the start. Must be nice!! I also raced a Z3 and won. Not by much though. One day I am going to have a BMW.
