My dad had a 1988 Dakota with the 2.2L I4. Top speed in that sucker was about 78 mph and it lost breath on the slightest incline. But nothing really ever went "bad" on it. Now THAT would be a perfect vehicle for a kid, no way they'd be able to race that.

You found a manual, V8 Dakota to test drive?! Damn, I thought those were pretty much factory order. And I'm thinking the gentleman considering one for his daughter isn't looking at the 5.9 R/T; he probably would've specified...

The daughter is getting a V6. I test drove a V8 today and I don't think I would put her behind the wheel of one of those beasts. That thing had balls! I am actually considering one for myself (5.9 R/T that is). The exhaust tone is still ringing in my head! Dodge may be winning me over a bit with the power they are putting in their vehicles (putting flame suit on).

Beware of the balljoints. They are notorious for failing. Other than that they are a nice truck. Big enough to tow a good load and haul stuff, but not quite as big as a full size. I have heard of the auto tranny's having problems (my parents Durango just got out of the shop for transmission trouble). Go to dodgedakotas.com for more info.
