I had a 82 mazda b2000 and it was the exact same thing as a ford curior. It makes sense wouldnt it, ford could have saved alot of money. look at the probe and mx6.even the rangers share the same platform explorers too.

FWIW, the Ford Courier was a Mazda rebadged.

Around that time, Chevy had the little pickup "LUV"
Was an Isuzu.

Chrysler had the Mitsu's ie: Ram50

The big three all had Japanese PU's then so as to get into the market quickly.
Ironically, the Japanese are using the american iron quite a bit for there stuff now, IE Mazda B series is a ranger, Isuzu uses S-10.

Don't get me started on how Ford's ridiculous parsimony wrecked the B-series by putting it on the Ranger platform and alienating the Mazda truck's customer base. Now they want to ruin the Protege the same way by sharing a platform fith the Focus. Keep them separate Ford, and enjoy owning more breadth of the small car market.

The Escort is/was on the Protege PLatform (which improved the product, Escorts had a high reliability rating).

I bet the Protege will be degraded if it goes to the Focus platform.

It's getting harder to buy a "genuine" Japanese car.
