back in the days Chrusler dominated the muscle car scene. They were on to something, if it worked then it should work now. I have to give credit to chrysler, the hemi was way ahead of its time, and the technology used is still active today. However the hemi design was not a chrysler design, the domed head with valves radially about the center point was developed in the pre-WW2 era by P&W and Rolls Royce who used the technology in their radial engines. As for using a air intake system the has a low conductivity to reduce heat soak. My mon's 98 chrusler uses a plastic upper intake. While the Duratech uses less expensive to manufacture aluminum. If someone could mold up a plastic upper intake it would help the heat soak situation, since the aluminum conducts heat from the engine and transferrs it to the air. Find out for yourself, go for a drive, then open the hood and touch the upper intake, ouch, its hot. Just FORD trying to save money in production

Just an FYI,
I had the exact same setup as Brian (Sanctum) and I liked it. The thing I didn't like about it was that the car would stall when in neutral, and off the gas.
The key with the SCA cold-air kit is you insulate the pipe, otherwise it gets EXTREMELY hot, and traps heat inside. Insulated, it's warm, uninsulated, it's BURNING hot. Whoever has the SCA kit, INSULATE your pipe, trust me.
Since I moved my battery to the trunk, I reinstalled the stock intake. Seems as if the KKM is getting lot more air. The battery takes up a LOT of room.
Now, just gotta make my own heat shield and run some piping from under the car to get some cool air to the 'general filter area', and I'll be set.

Hey guys This idea seems far fetched I bet, but here goes... Just like refrigirators use those tubes filled with freon (I think) what if you could do that all around the intake hoses and such. That should keep the air cooler, and maybe help....EH?

The plastic intakes are actually cheaper than the Aluminium. I know this for a fact because my last job was with a company that makes both plastic and Aluminium intakes. Another bit of information that may be helpful is that the new duratech Taurus' and Escape's have a plastic upper intake.

Dave don't forget the 12 valve Taurus and Mustang GT come with a plastic upper intake manifold. My opinion of plastic is its nothing but junk. Look at all the problems with the Mustang GT. An aluminum intake with a good phenolic spacer can reduce upper plenum temps by over 100* as recorded by an inferred thermometer. I'm not certain if you could do this with the duratec but its worth a try.

The other thing about plastic is that it could not be internally polished or Extrude Honed like aluminum. So, can someone design a spacer for us. Heat reflective ceramic coating for the upper is another idea.
