As of the last couple of months my CEL has been on, and I've had it checked several times...every time it's been diagnosed as "Insufficient EGR Flow." Initially I thought it might be the valve itself and replaced it...but that wasn't it and after talking to some people they said that it was probably a plugged EGR tube and wasn't worth the hassle. I was wondering if anyone knew if this actually was worth fixing and if so how laborous of a task it was.

It should be pretty easy. Once you remove the throttle body, the EGR passages are right there.
Function before fashion.

It isn't usually the tube that gets plugged. It is usually the passages in the intake manifold, especially right behind the throttle body. Remove the throttle body for access and you can clearly see what needs to be cleaned.

Before you start fixing anything you should check to see if the EGR valve is working properly. First, with the engine off, apply vaccum to the small fitting on the EGR valve to see if it will hold vaccum. If it dosen't hold vaccum the diaphram in the valve is bad and the EGR valve will need to be replaced. Next, with the engine at idle, apply vaccum to to the EGR valve the same way as before. The idle should drop, car will run rough, and may even try to stall. If it dosen't you either have plugged EGR passages or plugged EGR tube. A plugged tube seems to be very rare in the Contour, but plugged passages are very common. If the engine does run rough you will need to replace the EGR presure sensor. They cost $50-$75. There are many posts like yours in the troubleshooting forum, and also a good post about cleaning the EGR passages. Good Luck!

I've already replaced the EGR valve, it was about 2 months ago so I know for a fact that is functioning properly.
