I used Ourisman in VA, they didn't put all the bolts in when they replaced my water pump. I'm on my third!

The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I bought my 98 tour from koons and they really suck! I think the stealerships are the same. Most mechanics move from shop to shop and you may see the same mechanic at a different locations.Sorry I can,t give you more info. I hate the dealers

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I might try calling that CEGer at Jerry's Ford and if that doesn't pan out, maybe World of Ford in Alexandria or Hill and Sanders in Wheaton. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks.

Take it to Michigan. That's to only way to possibly guarantee good service. I swear, with all of the hardships I've had with local dealerships, I've acutally considered it!

I talked with Chris (he's the CEGer) at Jerry's Ford and it went well so I sent him an email listing the problems - waterpump leaking coolant, 3rd gear grinding, broken trunk release, leaking drivers-side door, and busted headlight housing. Apparently he is the only one there who works on Contours because they are a pain in the ass to working on so nobody else wants to. So, so far so good, I am hoping (and trusting) that there will be no need for me to consider towing it all the way to Michigan.

Been there. Done that. Don't waste the time or money. My dealership in NJ (All American Ford) has done right by my for the 4 years I have been going there. No upselling, no b/s, just straight up and fixed right the first time (except once). Actually, my car is there right now getting the passenger's axle replaced. Expensive, but peace of mind its getting done right.
The best part about my dealer, they are 5 miles away and are more than willing to help troubleshoot and install the occasional mod when I can't do it.

In case anyone cares, here's an update. Chris at Jerry's tore down the tranny and indeed it was a worn synchro that caused the grinding. Apparently the clutch is showing some cracking and ought to be replaced too. The total bill for the work (which includes fixing the water pump, the leakey drivers side door, and broken headlamp) is around $3000! They ran this by CarMax and apparently they are sending one of their technicians by to check it out and verify that the work is needed. I hope they don't turn me down because there is no way I am shelling out $3 grand of my own cash when I paid for a 3 year/30,000 mile warranty. Should find out today whether I'm fully covered. Wish me luck!
