Hey Capital CEG folks,

My SVT is going to need some major repairs - replacing the 3rd gear synchro bein the biggest thing.

The car is under warranty with CarMax and so I need to take it to a Ford Dealership to get the estimate and do the work. In the past (maybe a year ago at this point) and at SVT ST PETE's suggestion (see link), I took it to Tim Swarthout at Century Ford, but Century was bought by Koons and I just called and Tim ain't there any more. So can you all recommend a place in the MD suburbs that's good? I am thinking of Hill and Sanders. They are not an SVT dealer but do sell the SVT Focus. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Sorry, I never had a good experience with a Ford dealership!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Yeah, that's what I am worried about. I called CarMax to see if I could use an independent shop and they said that given the nature of the repairs that might be necessary I would need to take it to a Ford Dealership. Nuts!

Andy,

There is an earlier thread where it sounds like you might have used Sheehy Ford in VA (thread linky) Did you use them and if you did were they ok?

With the extent of the work that needs to be done I might be willing to go to VA...

At all costs, please avoid Sheehy Ford in Gaithersburg.

Wasn't there a Cap CEGer that worked as a mechanic at a dealership?

Time to search...

If you're willing to go to VA, World of Ford in Alexandria has always treated me well. I've never had any problems with anything they've ever fixed (and that includes the transmission which was replaced before they sold me my car). They're not an SVT dealership, but they used to be...and have no problems working on SVT's. Talk to Ben Dominguez if you go there.

I just had to go in for the final service by Ford dealer before the ESP expired (ignition cylinder was grabbing the key, door switch was sticking, power door lock button on drivers door occasionally worked, final attempt at fixing the creak monster rear sway bar), and Will at Sheehy knew his stuff and was friendly and responsive. I think he's fairly new there.
