So for about 2 months now every two weeks I my low brake fluid light comes up, I add some D.O.T. 3 fluid and fill it back to close to max. And all is good. After abotu 2 weeks, that light comes on, I open my hood and notice its a little below half down... I look arround for some puddles under my car, but never found anything. Everything is dry. Ive started to think about and I figured "what if the fluid is getting stuck in the drum brakes" then I started to worry... What do you guys think? Any input would be awesome. I have the 1996 Ford Contour GL MTX 2.0L Zetec. Thanks for any information in advance.

Braking system is comprised of - master cylinder
- brakelines
- abs system
- brakes
Do your brakes feel solid? any pedal movement (read: mushy) I would check for the following.. - cracked/loose master cylinder cap
- loose bleeder valves at the brakes (this is why I asked about pedal feel)
- craked hoses between the two..
Other than that.. I wouldn't know where to suggest.. You have to have some slow leaks somewhere.. Ray

My brakes feel pretty solid, but I really have nothing to compare them to, my mom's car has Sports Breaks so they are a lot more solid and touchy then mine, and she just had them replaced, mine are like half worn. My stopping is a little rough, but the pedal doesnt feel mushy, its very solid (just went down the street and gave it a quick test). They work outstandly well, its just my fluid likes to drain a little and I have no idea where its going. With any of those problems with I see brake fluid on the pavement under my car? Cause not once have I seen any fluids except water from the air conditioner on the pavement.
Oh and BTW, my Tour doesnt have ABS, as strange as it sounds... I learned this first time driving in the slush/snow and I put my brake down, and just started to slide, but ive figured all that out and know how to stop without ABS no problems.

I guess its possible to have a leak and never get to the pavement.. You *could* be leaking around the master cylinder, and it would pool up, or dribble enough to reach the ground...
Same for brake-lines... could be just leaking, barely..
Also... a small hole in a pressurized line *may* not leak unless you are braking.... which is why you *may* not see any leakage in your driveway, etc... you aren't using the brakes... a drop at this intersection, a drop at this light.... etc, etc..
Dunno..
I would check those caps/lines/valves for any type of moisture evidence, or staining from previous events..

I'm going to say wheel cylinder. That could explain why you don't see any fluid on the ground. It could also explain why the pedal feels fine, but the stopping is a little rough -your drum would have a light coating of fluid on it. Check the rear drums to see if you can see where fluid has leaked out of them.

well, my friend just told me that there might be a leak in my drum brakes. and that my rear brakes might not be working.... Awesome. He also said that it would be about 125$ for parts, and if I cant do it, about 375 with labor... Great, I have about 2$... and no job... SCREWED.
UPDATES!!!!
I just went to look under my car for the fuel Filter. as I was looking on the driver side at the gas tank, and I noticed my righ back wheel, and on the inside of the rim, and on the underside of the drum brake was wet and just slightly damp, on the wheel, and underside of the drum brake... It was a liquid that was the same color as my brake fluid... So what should I do about this?

Pull the wheel and drum off for inspection. Most likely you have a leaking wheel cylinder. It would be wise to replace both wheel cylinders if one is leaking. If the fluid has soaked into the brake shoes, you will need to replace them too. If the shoes need to be replaced, they must be done on both sides, not just the leaking one and the drums will need to be machined.
