No. You can though, but I did not.
I hammered that piece into the fender as much as I could without messing up the fender itself.
Its basically flat against the fender wall now.
In fact, when I did it, the driver side was more of a plastic soft feel to it with very little metal in it.
Almost like layers and layers of paint the clearcoat that was just hanging there but was pretty stiff.
