Anybody got any ideas for a shallow mounting depth 10" sub? I'm looking for a sub with 4" or less of top-mount depth. I'm planning on using it in a box of about .66ft^3 with 200w @4ohms or 300w @2ohms.

The Phase Linear Alliante looks pretty interesting, but I can't find a single place on the net that sells them. Ditto with the Blaupunkt Saucer Sub.

BTW, the lower the cost the better. I want to spend less than $100.

TIA,
-Colin

4" or less huh? this should be a challenge. Illusion audio makes one that would work, but it costs more than the 100.00 you are looking to spend. The blaus are also over 100.00. The Alliante is hard to find at under 500.00.

Do you know of any places where they sell the saucer sub or the ND8?

Didn't know the Alliante was that much $$$.

I guess I could go a little over 4" if you've got any subs up your sleeve. wink

That Vifa sub (299-229) looks pretty interesting. How's it look in a 2/3ft^3 box with 200w driving it? I don't have WinISD on this computer. frown

I just received my Vifa components for my truck in the mail yesterday (5" mid-bass and Neodymium tweeter). laugh

The problem with all of the drivers mentioned is they have a faily high Qes which drives the Qts way up in a small sealed enclosure.

The morel way work pretty well, but I would be afraid that it would be a bit "boomy"

It turns out that all of the drivers mentioned would make excellent free air drivers.

To be honest,

The focal in a .66 cu ft box with a 3" port 9" long looks pretty good.

I know you guys will probably hate to hear it, but how about the Kenwood small box 10"? I have 2 of them, and each is in a .88 cu ft sealed box and they sound great. I am running about 120W RMS to each sub. They are only 4 1/2" deep and cost about $59 each (Buy one get one sometimes for $100). They barely ever "bottom out" or distort, but if you are using anything other than a sealed box they probably will not work for your application(based on the size of box you are wanting to use). BTW, I think they are more toward a SQ sub than an SPL if it matters. I have the blue ones, but the new silver ones are the same specs, just different color cone. If you need any specific specs, I have the booklet right here.

Edit: Kenwood 10" at Crutchfield
