keep us posted, as I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in what you're doing.

If you search back through old posts, you can find Demon's feedback on running his car without secondaries.

my secondaries are trhe weirdest. they seem to stop working anytime it wants. then when i stop at a light or stop signb turn the car off for a few seconds it will be workign again. some days it does it and some days it wont. i even tried putting a rag under the imrc box to help with the heat and that worked pretty good for a while. im gonna try moving it next. other than that it works great.

my cable snapped on my IMRC and this is the 2nd time its happened. i've had the whole thing apart and right now my car is apart as i'm removing the heads to do some serious work on them (see my post in the 3.0L forum)
i'm just sick of the imrc probs and don't have the money for a new one....and the way i drive im nearly always above 3200rpm and really miss having power above 4500rpm
question tho will i still get that extra 10degrees of timing if i leave the box plugged in still?

FCO? either way, i'd be interested to contact the company that makes these for ford, they are located in NJ I think(its on the back of the box) I wonder if they would produce just the cable, granted, from looking at it, it doesn't look much different than a bicycle shift/brake cable. it should be fixable.

My original IMRC gave out at 70k miles on the Cougar, about a year and a half ago. Same symptoms as you guys have had, sometimes it worked, sometimes not, or not at all. I then decided to experiment and opened up the box. Turns out the gears were worn and there was a burnt odor! I ended up pulling the cable out of the box, and pinned open the secondaries. Drove around like this for only a couple months. Not impressed! The car had no low end power, and gained nothing up top either, as I expected. Not to mention, also, the start up issues I had, the odd clunking noises, low idle, and the flashing oil light that came on after 2 weeks after every start up. That said, I'd say from experience, its NOT worth it!!! Greg

Remove the heat catcher!
With that plastic cover on the front valve cover, you trap in heat and cook your IMRC box!
It doesn't help with broken cables, but should keep the electronics from baking.
