I'm gonna clean the EGR valve. Is it self explanatory? Just remove and spray cleaner inside and let dry? Also, can I clean the IAC valve? Thanks.

You will have to scrape the EGR valve. Don't use anything that will damage the valve seat or pintle. Do not get any strong chemicals up into the top where they can damage the rubber diaphragm.

Clean the IAC with carb cleaner and finish with silicone spray.

So what should I use to scrape it? And I can't use carb cleaner on it?? And by silicone spray, do you mean like the same stuff I use to lubricate weather stripping with? Thanks, I hope this will fix my somewhat rough idle.

If you do use the silicone lube, definately let it fully dry before installing. I have not had any problems as I let mine dry in the Florida sun while I did other maintenance, but others have indicated that silicone can damage O2 sensors.

If you don't use silicone lube - go without lubing it. Should be fine, otherwise you could also try some light machine oil - like for sewing machines.

One more thing, should I get new gaskets for both of them?

You can clean it?!?!?!?!

I replaced mine... 3 hours of work to get the stupid metal tube of the bottom! Almost cut a wrench down to make it work. Should have removed the intake manifold!

<Kidding>

Where is the IAC on this thing? Is that the other Silver can on top of the fuel rail?

I just used the male end of a battery wire brush and scrubbed the hell out of it with that and it worked along with some brake cleaner (was out of carb cleaner)

Yes you should.

You don't HAVE to, but for $5 max, why the heck not?

ok, i know this is a kinda old post...but i think i may need to clean my iac valve...when i start it up of the mornings..it will sputter and kinda act likes it going to die or somthing...and if i put it in reverse...it will get worse...but if i let it set for a minute or so...it will be alright...i just give it a lil gas and let it idle a second and im on my way...would this be what it is? if not then what is it and what can i do about it? thanx.
