WOW, I thought that I got bad gas mileage for a full take at 220 average. though I get on it all the time usually in 4th on the freeway(keep forgeting about 5th hehe) and when I get down to 1/4 tank I put it in 5th every time whether it's 70mph, or 25

Well
I normally got this:
11.9-12 gallons= 245-260 miles.. 70% long distance highways, etc (OUCH, I know..)
I filled up this time and haven't opened the secondaries once... I am at 190 miles, for half a tank... WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! WOW.. I can't live driving that way ALL the time.. but it DOES help if you need it...

I actually did the same thing last week..maybe one or two times i went above 3k rpm and at a 1/2 tank i had gone something like 170 miles...but from there it seemed the gauge fluctuated alot.. i managed to get 280 before adding 12.4 gallons of gas...with my other car if u let it run out of gas the damn pepboys fuel pump dies instantly so i gas up as soon as i see the low fuel light...btw the most driving i did all highway was no more than 60 miles...but when i step into it often i get 180 miles before the low fuel light illuminates

I got the same response.. my gauge seemed to be less accurate after half a tank..
I ended up getting 290.4 miles to 12.45 gallons....
Like I said earlier, I couldn't imagine driving that way all the time, but it helps when needed.. (oh.. and a side note: my car seems more powerful this tank, since I have taken 'er "way" past 3K this time.... like a refresher!!!

From the Fuel Economy.Gov site:
Ford Contour 6 cyl, 2.5 L, Lock-up(4), Regular 20 29 $1135 8.1 NA
Ford Contour 6 cyl, 2.5 L, Man(5), Regular 20 28 $1135 8.3 NA
Funny how the Automatic gets better mileage than the Stick.
I average 25MPG (Over the last 50K miles) so I am right in line with EPA estimates.
I usually go 300 Miles to a tank, but I have gone 400 2x.
I get the highest mileage at 80 MPH (about 3000 RPM on the tach.
