I searched but couldn't find what I was looking for. I was wondering what the first steps would be to improving the accelleration for my atx 'tour. It seems like the 0-30 is where my car lacks more than it probably should. Is this a problem with all atx 'tours and what could I do to fix it somewhat?

I think a chip to help firm up the shifts would be a good place to start. If you concerned with just down low, then an underdrive pulley and optimized throttle body will really give noticable improvements. Cam gears will help alittle too. Intake and exhaust are good for mid to top end power. That's about where the bolt-ons stop and real serious modding begins. An ATX cooler is highly recommended.

Check out my sig,,,,, the atx is still not satisfy at all. All cars pull on me off the line, even if I can run circles around them once moving. Best thing to do to make an atx contour faster is to sell it and buy a mtx contour.
Anyways, I got a used chip off the classifieds on this site and reprogramming by KKM for a total around $150.

Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that the tranny can only handle up to 200lb of torque, so modding it substantially will result in death. Those poor atx cars. I feel their pain.

PM me to tell me of a welder that can craft me a modified Y pipe in the Los Angeles area! OR I may be willing to buy a 3 flange modified Y.

Well if you have enough money to add more than 70ft lbs of torque to your engine, than you should have enough money to mod the atx to handle it,,, and maybe make it accelerate worth a crap while you're at it.

But how could the transmission handle it? Won't the engine output kill it? Simply upgrading the torque converter wouldn't cut it would it? If not then what would be the simplified steps involved in having the transmission handle the output? ??????????????????????????????!

Who said it was simple? Anyways, Russel-3L has a 3L duratec and will be soon running nitrous through his modded atx, we'll see how well it holds up.

Never intended to say it was simple. I meant simplified instructions as in. . replace this, put in that, then that, then drink beer for rejoicing. Thanks for the info. I'll be stalking him.
