Trust me you would want these things as FAR away as you can get them, they seriously nearly deafened me. I HAVE to run the amp at it's quietest and even then they are loud, they are a teeth shatteringly clear type of loud too. If you put them in the pillars you would be deaf really quickly, no joke. and in the A-pillars I think they would still sound too close. If I could I would stick them on two poles extending 10 feet in front of the car and remove the windshield, but that would look retarded now wouldn't it

if they are so efficient and loud, what would you guys think of running a pair, amp free, off the HU? i know more power usually means more clarity, but if theyre that sensitive as it is, it may not matter so much, plus a chance to save money and possible other trouble of having the amp involved. maybe?
then for instance get a 4 channel amp to power the midbases and bridge 2 channels for a sub

Its a possibility, but they seem to be pretty revealing, meaning that problems with the HUs amp would be exposed. The other issue would be crossing them over and matching them to the other components in the system. You might be in for more work than its worth.

i found the NEO8's on etronics.com for $54.99, and shipping is about $12. I found that etronics is a pretty good place to find things for cheaper, like my HU was $25 cheaper there thatn at crutchfield.

Do these have to be mounted vertically, or can they be mounted horizontally? If horizotally, they might be easier to mount.. especially with a dash location.

but remember the dispersion patterns of the sound, wide stage left to right, not much at all up and down. this would create an odd soundstage i think, and would make it hard to position the sweet spots around both the driver and passenger at the same time, though maybe not so bad if youre selfish and set things to completely forget about the guy sitting shotgun :p

Yup.. that's me.. i'm selfish, and i don't care if my passenger hears it or not!! Well, if these can be mounted horizontally instead of vertically, then they could be laid flat in the corners of the dash. Also, as was said, they have a wide dispersion pattern if was mounted this way, it could work better for both the passenger and driver right? It's just a thought now. Here's a quickie i drew up.. i know i don't have photoshop.. so i drew something up

In the kick panels would be the only suitable location that I can think of.
DBZ, if you are going to put something in your dash like that, a simple dome tweeter would be a better option. Below is what the dispersion of the drivers would look like. As you can see, the output of the driver on the right would be difficult to hear.

Maybe Luke can post a drawing of his focus to clear things up a bit.

If you put them in your dach on thier side, even if you aimed them at center, the sound would appear beside the driver and beside the passenger since the wave is very narrow out the ends on the speaker. If your head was in the very center of the car it would be fine but it isnt. If you put them in the kickpanel location though, the pattern would be extremely wide and sound much better. If I move my head forward or back a foot it completely changes the sound. Trust me, mine aren't bolted down and I have had them all over the place
