Valve Cover Gasket Replaced - 1 small problem.
The gasket was $20.99. O'Reilly Auto Parts had it in stock. Neither Autozone, Pep Boys, nor NAPA had it in stock.
Since I also had the timing belt cover off, I added washers when replacing it in order to raise it up about a 20th of an inch as the belt was slapping the cover when engine was cold.
As near as I can tell, the factory fastened one of the 10 bolts without a sleeve, but with the rubber washer.
After removing the bolts, I saw 10 rubber washers, but there were only 9 sleeves. Thinking I dropped one perhaps, my wife and I combed the entire area for half an hour---no luck. I chose the front middle as the spot without a sleeve. I did add a washer the same size as the flared end of the sleeve. The bolts, sleeves and rubber washers all attach from the outside so nothing can fall off during removal or replacement.
If anyone happens to have a spare bolt sleeve, I would be most happy to buy it. I don't think this is a dealer item any longer. So far, no sign of any leak, but I do want to add a replacement sleeve.
Advice: Don't flip the cover over until you have removed the sleeves. The gasket came with new rubber washers so you can pitch the old ones. Some of mine had to be gently tapped out, while others just slipped right out.
Thanks again for all the advice!
