So my passenger side mid stops working this morning. No big deal...probably a loose connection. I take the door panel off and see that one connection at the x-over has come loose. Then to my HORROR I see that there is a small tear in the surround of the mid!
Turns out that there is a small star shaped piece on the inside of the door panel that protrudes just enough to put some pressure on the edge of the surround. I had checked and thought there was enough clearance when I installed the speakers about six months ago.

If you have used MDF spacers to put some 6.5's in there, please be careful!
