Yes- WinXP firewall is trash. Stay away. Software firewalls are effective, but only to a certain extent, and they're annoying, and sometimes they malfunction. Get a good router with a hardware firewall... if you use laptops, get a wireless. However, I don't particularly like Netgear... I've had nothing but trouble with my wireless routers from them... maybe their hardline routers are better? I have a d-link and it works wonderfully.
