Ok my parents own a small truck accessories business we just bought new computers and upgraded to cable at the shop. Can someone recommend a firewall to protect them? I was looking into ZoneAlarm but Im not to sure if its the best way to go. The main counter comp, is hooked up to the net then the second is wirelessly connected to that computer or routed however you want to say it. Would I still have to buy 2 copies of ZoneAlarm setup this way?

Get a router and use ZoneAlarm Pro (freebie if you're cheap). You shouldn't have any problems with that config.

I think WinXP comes with a firewall. It's cheaper than ZoneAlarm and requires no configuration. It'll serve as a basic firewall for you until you upgrade to a hardware firewall later on down the road. I've not used WinXP Home so I'm not sure if that has the firewall; I have a TabletPC and they come with Pro. To turn on the built-in firewall, find "network connections" in the control panel, then right-click the network connection you're using (ethernet or wireless?),select "properties." Under the "Advanced" tab you'll see the Firewall option. If you want to configure it, just click the "Advanced" button after you've activated the firewall. Hope that helps.

The Windows' firewall is pure garbage.
Get a hardware firewall; (Like a router or switch with a built-in firewall) Netgear's line has excelent security for the money.

Yes- WinXP firewall is trash. Stay away. Software firewalls are effective, but only to a certain extent, and they're annoying, and sometimes they malfunction. Get a good router with a hardware firewall... if you use laptops, get a wireless. However, I don't particularly like Netgear... I've had nothing but trouble with my wireless routers from them... maybe their hardline routers are better? I have a d-link and it works wonderfully.

Yeah, Netgear's wireless stuff is meh.... but you can't beat their security. That's worth a few more mins messing around with em' I think.
