Cd players of all kinds have been scratching cds for years. The first discmans were horrible. The optic arm has a tendency to scratch it when going over bumps. When this happenss the speed of the cd is thrown off and the alinment of the laser as well but the esp and the memory reste themselves while the music is being drawn on a buffer. It also gets scratched by the dust tab in the opening of the cd player.
To control this you need a sony hu with custom file. If you do not have that your best bet is to get an rf modulator. This is not a big deal. All that is different is a wired remote that you can glue to your center console to control the changer and to display the song info. To take care of the music the changer puts out a radio frequency that you can listen to on FM radio with any tuner. Here is a pic
