Most of these setup's "gains" over stock could be had by the stock setup replacing the resonator and mufflers with straight through design units.
The stock setup would likely even out perform most of these then!

What do you exactly mean by baffled. The reason I ask is because I have the bassani system, and the mufflers look like they go straight through to me.

Also the stock setup is a 2.25" O.D. and the after market systems are 2.25" I.D. so if the stock exhaust is constructed with 1/8" steel that is really only a 2" I.D. exhaust so the stock exhaust with the removed resonator and different mufflers would give much better performance gains, but not as good as the aftermarket systems.

Contoursvt11 makes a good point.

There is a HUGE difference between 2.25" OD and 2.25" ID...

Im looking for dyno grapsh so I can prove to the Mazda6 3.0L guys that running a 2.5" ID exhaust system is going to provide better gains than a 2.25" ID system.

I remember when I was experimenting with my exhaust system on my Cougar back a couple years ago, that the consensus was a 2.5" ID exhaust system was the way to go, especially if you installed headers (which I have on my Cougar).

If Draxas had the money to do the testing I would. Right now we are offering a 2.5" cat back for the Mazda6 that splits into 2.25" at the rear into Magnaflow mufflers. The system flows VERY well. But I would like to have dynos as evidence. Again, if I had the several hundred $$$$ necessary to build another 2.25" system and then do comparison dynos, I would....

it'd be kinda cool to see something like what was done on FocalJet

where they took 11 of the top exhaust systems and dyno tested all of them...

they were all within a couple HP of each other and none exceeded +4 peak HP...

There is Not a huge difference at all, but then again I have not seen any aftermarket that was 2.25" I.D.
BTW - We are talking ~5% more flow area if it's very thick piping (I.E. negligable) Probably less in actuality. (3-4%)

The jump from 2.25" O.D. to 2.5" O.D. is around 25% more flow area.

The jump from 2.25" O.D. to Dual 2" I.D. is over 65% more flow area.

Even the jump from 2.5" I.D. to Dual 2" I.D. is around 30% more flow area.

All those Aftermarket setups I have seen are 2.25" O.D. just like the stock single piping.

My guess is people forget the thickness of typical SS piping is greater then standard aluminized. This way it does not crack from heat cycling like SS is prone to do. (I.E. another reason why it lasts 2-3 times as long, but then again weighs 2-3 times as much)

So are Magnaflow's mufflers and resonators of the straight-through design?

Yes, Magnaflow has the straight through design in their mufflers. No baffles like a Flowmaster or "turbo series" muffler.

Borla do not use baffled mufflers. They are a straight through design just like magnaflow.

logic suggest that the straight through design would flow better then the baffled. the question then is how much better if at all? anyone know the numbers?

i love that flowmaster rumble so i hope that the difference isn't much.

Flowmasters are probably the worst. They also only sound good on V8s. They are not baffled nor straight through, they are louvered.
