I've heard good things about Valvoline Maxlife oil and was thinking about using it for my next oil change. Has anyone here used it? Is it good? Is it bad? It would be for a Duratec engine with almost 80k on it. I did the search but didn't find much. Any opinions or experiences would be much appreciated.

My engine hasn't locked up yet.

I would suggest something along these lines, since you mileage is really too high to change over to a full syn oil. I have used it for about a year now and like I said, mine hasn't locked up yet... so I'm happy.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I'm wondering if Maxlife is my best option at this point. I agree that my mileage is too high to switch to full synthetic oil, especially since I have only had the car since 50k and there's no telling how the previous owners treated her. Did you notice any improvements after switching to Maxlife? There are a bunch of mushy testimonials at the Valvoline site but I have yet to talk to someone who actually uses it.

It did stop my oil pan from leaking for about 6 months. After that it started up again, but not as bad. I still need to change to gasket, there is not getting around that, but it did help alot.

Other than that, that's about it.

Unless you want to count the fact that I have right at 210K on my car now and the only oil I loose is at the oil pan and through the UIM. Minus the small stent of time that I was running very rich, my plugs are always clean as a whistle with a nice even grey burn on them. Not a single trace of oil in there.

As far as I can tell, there would be no benefit to changing over to MaxLife from conventional dino oil until there is a need. If you have no leaks or no oil consumption, why change?

Just to muddy the water a little, I saw an ad today at Kragen for MaxLife full synthetic. It was priced the same as Valvoline's Synpower full synthetic, $3.99 a quart. That might make sense on a high milage engine.

I've been using MaxLife for a good while now, stopped or severly decreased my pan leak as well, which was the only reason why I went to it.

Good stuff!
