The duratech is a high revving V6... 3500 at 70-ish is cool for the little mean powerplant. I would recommend having everything that hitman said to do. But, you are lucky that you know the prior owner, so you can find out what his maintenance records were... and go from there. You snagged an aweosme car, as you will see over time. Preventive maintanence is the key to keeping that baby running awesome for years to come. My SVT is just getting started at 103,xxx miles, its had just typical maintanence...with not a SINGLE problem (accept that damn serp belt.. grrr!)
