I tried searching but didn't come up with something exactly like my problem. When braking my car shakes. The faster I'm moving when I start to brake, the worse it is. The more pressure I apply to the brake though, the better it gets. Braking for an off-ramp on the expressway is hell. Could it be the spring/struts? They have like 108k on them. I have eibachs/euro struts I'm waiting to install, so if that's the problem I'm not too worried. Could it possibly be just an alignment issue? I'd probably get the car aligned after I install the suspension anyhow. Or could it just simply be the brakes? Front or back? Both? If anyoen has ideas, let me know.

So you've dismissed warped rotors as a possibility?

It would most certainly be a brake ptoblem. Most likely warped rotors. Another prospect would be binding caliper slide pins so that the calipers don't "float" properly. Start with the rotors and while you have it apart check out the caliper slide pins.

You're probably (all) right, however I have the same problem and can dismiss my rotors or calipers as an issue since these have been checked. In my case I suspect an alignment issue -- probably too much toe out -- or a shifted belt on one of my front tires. The alignment is likely an issue since I had to replace a steel rim (!) and a tire a month ago when I hit a really big pothole at a great rate of knots. I will rotate the tires to be sure, thought I *do* feel a slight shimmy at speed through a *range* of speeds so don't think it's balancing either.

A shifted belt, though rare in modern passenger tires, will cause symptoms virtually identical to warped rotors. A good way to troubleshoot this is, if you have a standard transmission, perform a sudden downshift (without blowing up your engine!) to perform engine braking. If the sudden deceleration at the axles causes a "fluttering" in the steering then it could be a belt or even a loose tie-rod end.

/Eric

If it only happens when braking, it is highly unliely that it is tires or worn steering parts.

Is it possible that Warn Control Arm bushings may cause a noticeable play in brakeing?

I have the same problem and it's my rotors.

I have the exact same problem and I have already tried a bunch of crap to fix it. I have had the problem through 2 sets of tires so it isn't the tires. I have replaced my rotors twice and had the latest set turned once, but still have the problem. Each time I do something with the rotors the problem goes away for a few days and then begins shake, slightly at first but rapidly gets worse. I think I have figured my problem to be Raybestos Quiet Stop brakes because the problem first showed up shortly after they were installed.

Here is my theory. Ceramic is a heat insulator and therefore my ceramic pads are not absorbing the heat from my rotors. Since the rotors are having to bear all the heat burden, they are warping very quickly. What do you think, sound plausible?

To test my theory I will need to buy new pads (any suggestions?) and get my rotors turned again (possibly have to buy new since they have already been turned once).
