I just use the unfiltered water to rinse the soap off and then spray it with the autodry rinse. I haven't had any problems with spotting and I think I might even manage more that 3 washes out of the original filter. I have already used it twice and there isn't even a hint of "brown" in the filter.
Maybe the Pep Boys I went to is whack. My filter was brown to start with  All of their filters were brown..
Do you take the thing off the hose and rinse that way ?
