Brother came over today and wanted to try out my ride. Took it out for a drive to see how it handled. I have a '97 tour LX with a duratec and a 5 speed. We took it out and wound it out a bit to see what it could do taking it up to redline for a short period. 5 minutes max. As we were driving up to the house I noticed a smell in the cabin..electrical?? smelled wierd. Looked at the temperature gauge and it was peaked. I thought right away it was the water pump. We were only 2 blocks from the house so we brought it home and turned it off immediately. Coolant was boiling and leaking down the right side wheel. It seems like a simple overheating issue. Twenty minutes later I turned it on and the temp gauge was holding low.
My question is.. Water pump? I know this has been covered extensively in the forums but this is new to me and I want to be sure. Maybe the thermostat? Its Good Friday so Ill be taking it in tomorrow.
