I guess you just want to see the Falcon name over here and you could care less about getting the performance of the real Falcon.

On the contrary, I'd love to see a Falcon here. But I know we'll never see both a "Futura" and a Falcon here at the same time, if we'll ever see a Falcon at all.

A Falcon, as it is currently in Oz, would do 2 things to Ford that they wouldn't want:

1> Spread their already diminishing car market over a larger line, creating less profit potential.

2> More importantly, a powerful RWD car would cannabalize Mustang sales. And Ford would not even think of that.

The solution -- Create a FWD Falcon utilizing mainly 3L Duratecs. You get a car that has a superb reputation, meets all the requirements Ford set out to do, doesn't adversely affect any of Ford's current offerings, and could be built on a modified Mazda6 platform very easily.

It would not be at all unthinkable for Ford to offer FWD and AWD (SVT) versions of the Falcon here in the US and RWD versions in Oz. They cover all their bases, and get maximum use of the name and the platform.

"Creat a FWD Falcon.."

With what $$$, and they already have the 500 and CD338 (former Futura) coming.

They're talking about putting the Falcon name on the car that was formerly the Futura--to be built on the Mazda 6 platform (so expect FWD).

Hey, who remembers the Ford Fairmont? That wouldn't be a half bad name. Its kinda wimpy, but at least it starts with and "F".

I see what you're saying but I don't think Ford will do it, which is a good thing. I don't believe the Futura is gonna be built in any way close to be like the current Falcon and seeing that name on the "Futura" will turn off some Ford enthusiasts. The rest of the crowd cares less about performance (soccer moms, etc.) so Ford would be disservicing its self. They should just come up with a new name to go with this new car. Kinda like how they came up with Contour when they could have just used mondeo. Not sure why they didn't, maybe because the mondeo has so many more options available (AWD being one) and thus isn't exactly the same car. Maybe they just had the Contour name laying around and needed something to throw it on.

We would be "Tempo E. G." if FOrd had kept the name the same. The CDW27 was called "1995 Tempo project" for a while.

If the car does infact look like a smaller version of the "500", why not call it the "400" F-our hundred, keeping with the "F" word Seems like number cars have been around for awhile and with current makes like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, etc, why not Ford

Chrysler 300C... alot of car companys are into it. Speaking of that, I drove one of those 300C Hemi yesterday... I think I've found my next car! That thing is a work of art, performance, and style. And at only 34G's with ALL options... you get bentley looks, with Kia pricing. Sorry to hijack the thread, but the "400 F" struck my memory of yesterday.

Ford's Fantasia,
If it comes close to the Contique's as a drivers car- Ford Finesse, If the bean counters destroy it like the Contique's - Ford Farce, and If someone has enough common sense and allows a Common Rail Diesel option The Ford Frugal.
American's are missing the boat without a Diesel option. But then too many Americans are clueless about the new technology (much more viable that Band-Aid Hybrids) (a laptop sized Nimh battery pack Jeeze).
The technology is there and the EPA (alias Gestapo) is not allowing diesel cars.????? At least not Visteon, ie: the new 2.7L diesel Jag option, system controls, electronics and development is Delphi's???? Specs 206 Hp, 360 ft-lb. @1800 and 40.3 mpg overall and at steady state interstate 47.3 mpg. Everyday I run into new technology that would beclean enough to satisfy most Americans, but not the EPA?? Ie 2007 regs update. Someone besides our government is controlling the EPA? Just some food for thought folks. This is a great country and I'd like to see it stay that way for our grand children.
