I guess you just want to see the Falcon name over here and you could care less about getting the performance of the real Falcon.
On the contrary, I'd love to see a Falcon here. But I know we'll never see both a "Futura" and a Falcon here at the same time, if we'll ever see a Falcon at all.
A Falcon, as it is currently in Oz, would do 2 things to Ford that they wouldn't want:
1> Spread their already diminishing car market over a larger line, creating less profit potential.
2> More importantly, a powerful RWD car would cannabalize Mustang sales. And Ford would not even think of that.
The solution -- Create a FWD Falcon utilizing mainly 3L Duratecs. You get a car that has a superb reputation, meets all the requirements Ford set out to do, doesn't adversely affect any of Ford's current offerings, and could be built on a modified Mazda6 platform very easily.
It would not be at all unthinkable for Ford to offer FWD and AWD (SVT) versions of the Falcon here in the US and RWD versions in Oz. They cover all their bases, and get maximum use of the name and the platform.
