I haven't heard of Wheelsnext, but Wheelmax gets quite a bit of flak on this site.

I wouldn't use either. I'm a TR fan all the way. Even DTD has their head up their butt most of the time, but I'd use them in a pinch (like, if I wanted Falken Azenis...)

Tires.com (DTD) is a fine service. They have performed equally well as I purchased wheels/tires from them. Tirerack.com is also great, ordered tires from them too!

You generally get what you pay for so $875 may seem like a great deal until you have problems and no customer service later on.
Check the Group Buy forum for some good cheap wheels and you can find good tires for under $100 on tire sites.

Yup, and TR is the cream of the crop.

They test fit everything. Their sales and tech reps test drive the tires on the track and on the road, so they know their product, and can make educated, reasoned suggestions based on your needs and their actual experience.

DTD listened to me talk about autocross, and then sold me 23lb wheels. Lesson learned.

DTD is fine if you've already done the research somewhere else, and I've heard stories about how they stand behind their product and service. So yes, they're "fine" in my book, but not "great."

I didn't order online from Tires.com, but did get my wheels from their store. They are awesome...The reason wheels are cheap online is because you still have to get them mounted and balanced. For example, at wheelsnext my package was around $1200, but on sale for $1000...Discount tire got a great deal, mounted and balanced. If I bought online, after I paid for them to be mounted and balanced, the price would be more...Plus, one of my wheels arrived bent. They replaced it...That will not happen with an online company, you will just be [censored] out of luck...Happy hunting...

BS.

TireRack and DTD would both stand behind their product in that case.

Local? Where's "here?"

In Wichita, all I got was a bunch of blank stares when I tried to research wheel weight. They didn't have the product knowledge, and they couldn't even come close to the online prices.

Hey, re-read the post...I am talking about DTD, that's where I got my wheels...I was referring to places like wheelmax and wheelsnext...Trying reading next time instead of breezing through posts and throwing [censored] out there...

OK. Here's the whole thing. You say you bought your wheels and tires locally. Then you say

1. wheels are cheap online because there's still mounting and balancing to be done,

2. The online deal you could have worked would have been more expensive, in total, than doing the whole thing locally, and

3. That one of your wheels arrived bent, and the local place replaced it to your satisfaction.

You conclude with this point:

"That will not happen with an online company, you will just be [censored] out of luck..."

So, your whole paragraph makes a pretty clear point that buying online is not the way to go (in your opinion.) You are not specific about what online company you would avoid.

I'm sure you know what you thought you said, and that you think you said what you were thinking when you wrote what you thought you were thinking, but I don't think you did.
