OK. I have been out of the loop for car audio for a couple years since finishing the last system.
i was running two modest and cheap 8" subs in a 1.1 cu ft sealed enclosure. the bass was decent, but not earth shattering (~120dB).
I am wondering what would be the equivalent or a little bit better for just 1 sub in maybe a ~.75 cu ft box. preferably sealed, but i could go to 1 cu ft ported. i don't care that much about SPL. just nice smooth, low bass.
would one 10 incher be enough? or would i have to go with a 12? brand suggestions under $150 each? DVC? i am looking to mount it in a custom enclosure on the driver's side corner of the trunk. i should see higher gains in the corner, i think.
thoughts? suggestions?
once i figure out the sub, i'll determine what amp to power it.
thanks.

I'm using a blueprint 1001 10 in. sub in a .66 cu. ft. sealed enclosure and it sounds great. Very good SQ, and it gets pretty deep when needed.

Blueprint's site is www.blueprintdrivers.com but it's been down for a while. Take a look at this sub: 12" Dayton DVC It's a clone of the Adire Audio Shiva, which has gotten rave reviews. I'm designing a system for someone and will be using either the 12" or 15" Dayton DVC powered by a 2ch amp in bridged mode (possibly a US Acoustics USX-2150 producing 450w for around $125).

what about this? MB Quart 10" or this? Advent 10" or this? RF 10" which would be the best of these three? i am leaning towards the advents since they are so cheap. about $50 for two of them, and they will work in small boxes. the Daytons are nice, but a bit pricey since i will need to get na amp too.

(1) The Quart seems okay. But, it's extremely low power handling and low efficiency indicate that it's got a very low output. Also, it's 6ohms which complicates matching an amp. You'd need 3 Quarts ($150 total) to get a 2ohm load, and I think that a single 12" Dayton DVC would still outdo them. (2) The Advents are cheap which seems to be their only positive point. You'd probably be making a sideways movement from your current 8" subs. (3) The problem with the RF is that it's an 8ohm sub. You'll have to get something that puts out 300w @8ohms (equivalent to 600w @4ohms) to push it. Otherwise, it would probably meet your needs. Take a look at this 15" Dayton Thruster for $58. It is EXTREMELY efficient. You could run it with a very modest amp (easily less than $100). Let me know if this interests you at all, and I could run some enclosure calculations with WinISD.

I just ran the 15" Thruster's numbers through WinISD. It calls for a 2.7 ft^3 sealed box. Ported and bandpass boxes get freakishly big (greater than 5 ft^3). This seems quite a bit larger than what you're looking for.
The Blueprint 1001 costs $79 and requires a .5 ft^3 box. Maybe Dave or someone else has got an e-mail to contact them if you're interested.

I just went through the SQ sub search. I've now got a Blueprint BP 1001 driven by a Zapco 100X Studio (a measly 200 watts bridged) in a .67 cu.ft. box and it sounds great - crisp clean bass with some nice deep sound! awesome driver!!

15" is definitely too big. funny...when i had my monte carlo, i ran a single cerwin vega 18" in a ported enclosure in the trunk with a 500W amp i borrowed from a friend. the bass was ridiculous, and i had to give the amp back after a 2 weeks, but it was fun.
the diamond audio 10" DVC looks like a good deal. i'd love to find a pair of Polk dB or dX subs in that range....
