I hope you have not yet purchased your speakers yet

it is a Dave group buy

"Well, I installed one side in my Ranger last night and will have the other side installed tomorrow, along with trying to find the best position for a tweeter.

Set-up:

I have the 6.5" in the stock door location and I am playing around with different tweeter positions. The 6.5" is mounted to a 1/4" hardboard adaptor, but other than that, there are no mods to the door to try to seal it up.

The HU is a Sony CDX-C590 (18wx4) ES HU which is about 8 years old.

Impressions:

I am finding the same issues with the tweeter that my acquaintence was. Namely a bit of harshness in the treble. Removing the phase shield smoothed things out a bit to the point that I found the sound acceptable. I don't think I will be replacing the tweeter, but I want to get some others impressions before finalizing my choice. I hope to meet up with Trapps, RyeLou, Spatt and some other local CEGers or former CEGers to have them give their impressions. Replacing the tweeter will add substantially to the price as mentioned earlier. At least 20.00...

Midbass and midrange are both very good. Ideally, you would still use some sort of sub (Free air rear deck sub, or basslink would make a good addition if fabrication is not your thing. Without a sub, running these things without a bass blocker can sound good, but is limited in output capabilities (as is every other speaker of this size). I found them to have substantially more low freq output than my MB Quart 218 midbasses that were in the contour with similar midrange response. Keep in mind that they produced good bass with a very poorly sealed door. Throw a layer or two of dynamat with some other sealing provisions on the doors, and the output will even be better.

Honestly, I'm not sure I have heard a sub 100.00 speaker (coaxial or component) as good, but like I said, I want people not involved to help me with the subjective portion.

Based on the prices and my time, the price will be 70.00 plus shipping. For 75.00, I can include a 1/2 MDF mounting ring for the mid for those who aren't interested in making their own.

If I get a chance, I will post some pics of the crossover prototype. I am looking at generic PCBs, but I may be able to get better pricing on a custom PCB for the application, the problem is that it will be more work, which may result in the same price to you guys in the end. The advantage would be a much smaller PCB so it's easier to hide.

I am including a small margin in the price for unexpected material costs, and larger one for my time. If they incidental costs don't occur, or they don't take as much time as I am expecting, the price could potentially drop a bit (62-65.00 maybe?)

The next thing is the payment. I would likely need 50.00 up front in order to pull this off and it would basically work like this. I set a date (Say May 16th) to get in on the first batch. You paypal the money to my account by that date, and I place the order the following day. I will then start the assembly process (about 2 hours including packaging) I will send out the parts according to who ordered first. When complete, I will e-mail the person to let them know they are ready, and give them the balance due including shipping.

Any questions, suggestions, tips are welcome"
