yea so finally got my car driving again after a month and was out doing some spirited driving on a country road and wouldn't u know it i've a wonderful clacking noise that is hardly noticable until about 3500rpm pretty noisy and pretty sure its a rod knock
so now im looking at my options... i was looking at selling the thing and picking up a 92 typhoon but now i can't get anything for a car w/ a junk motor
so what should i be looking for, i really like the car and am debating doing some motor mods to the vehicle. i just started at a machine shop building race engines about a month ago so i have access to all the equipment u could dream of and im learning to do everything.
1.so should i rebuild the 85k mile 2.5 SE motor
2.should i look for a complete SVT motor and swap that
3.buy a 3.0L short block and build/ install that
if i tear a motor apart i will be balancing it and blueprinting it
since i will have the heads off i will most likely try to put some 3L valves in. since i have the tools, along w/ a full porting and bowl blending and decking the heads
if i get the 3.0 would it be worth all the svt upgrades (i mean cost effectively worth it)
i have tried the search and looked thru the archives but i don't really have the time to go thru everything, dont' have the attention span, or really know what to look for
i am on a fairly limited budget but all i have to pay for is parts here cuz labor is FREE! (me)
also if anyone has time maybe some prices for stuff
oh and if i go all out im gonna want a car that will run solid 14s when done w/ it (i can drive)
thanx everyone

I just had the same thing happen to me, I just had a used SVT engine put in. Cost was $1000 for the engine, about $700 for new clutch and flywheel, and $500 for misc. parts (with careful NON-FORD DEALER shopping, you can pay about half that).

Yep, ditto, right at 3500. Warranty though so who knows what they are doing to her.

Drop in a 3L short block (~$500), do the block prep work yourself with guidance from the 3L forum, bolt on your existing heads & intake manifolds with 3L injectors & a chip.
Low dollar, makes nice power, then sell it to get something that will get you into the low 14s high 13s if that is what you want.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I think you should just sell me the SE without a motor in it for $1000 or so. It's exactly what I've been looking for.
