The trans temp sens is located on the solenoid pack but has nothing to do with shifting or normal operation. Rather, it is a warning to the PCM of fluid over temp. A slipping tranny is usually caused by low line or control pressure, bad clutch packs, sticky valve body.
Go to a shop and have them connect a pressure gauge and go for a ride. This will tell you more then the codes will.
