How does the CSVT stack up against the older style Eclipse's (including the regular model and the gsx...I was thinking 98 or 99 was the last year for this style). I was just wondering because some lamer drove by me in the parking lot where I park my car (at college) while I was working on it, then he rolled down his window and made some hand gester (I assume he wanted me to follow him to race). I would have done it but my TB and MAF are not on the car LOL. I didn't get a look at what model it was...other than it had a body kit, a ricer exhaust and was the older style.

When you say older style, was it a 1g or 2g....A gst, especially gsx(AWD), would have you. You modded against a stock GST would be a close race, but if the GST is modded, usually no way. Now an RS or GS or whatever else (non-turbo) run 16s, an SVT should handle nicely. Then we get into the 3g and the V6s are some nice competition. There's a little overview on Eclipses for ya.

LOL, nevermind....it was my buddy...he just bought a car. The thing is all ho-ed out, but has a lot of potential. It is a 95', 16v, etc etc. The previous owner put a lot of money into that car and gave him everything with it.

Exactly like stated.

Stock for stock the DSM turbo wins.

A moderately modded or better SVT will take a stock DSM but then what is a stock DSM.

For a couple hundred bucks DSM's are mid to low 14's

For a grand or so they are 14 flat easily, probably high 13's!

So if you happen to find a stock DSM (good luck) odds are the person would not race you anyway since it's an old lady or someone similiar in car nature.

Morale of the story is 99.9% of us would lose.

If you mean 3rd gen Eclipse then yes an SVT would win by a hair. Mod for mod the SVT would pull a head even more but I do not consider anything but a 1G or 2G worth talking about so...

If you mean 1.8L then you can beat it on foot.

The 2.0L DOHC (non-turbo) is a good engine but still slow as hell.

A more exact morale. If it's not a turbo DSM then it's not worth talking about...

LOL! Agreed!

I think the newest models (I guess that's a "3G" ) have gone waaay soft. Pardon my french, but they're total chickmobiles. "Cute" sells a lot of cars...

Actually forced induction drops less power to elevation then NA does so we'd get killed even worse.

So it may be a universal killer just not universal in power percentage dropped!

BTW - WTF does Utah have to do with any of this post in the first place???

since I own a 1g awd with more mods then it knows what to do with. I'm a good source
and I raced a 2g awd from a 40-50ish roll a while ago in my grocery getter.

stock vs stock a 1g or 2g awd from a stop will spank a csvt. Honestly i've never had a worse off the line car than my csvt. Up top the car makes up for its [censored] hole shot. From a roll a csvt will pull a 2g, but not a 1g.

the 2g awd I raced was a 5spd and from a roll. 2nd gear 5000rpm's and up I walked. With me passing I think in the middle of 3rd but it was a slow walk past. Now a GS-T from a roll, I think i'd give the edge to the GS-T.

mod for mod
LOL
just be prepared to get railed like Jenna Jameson.

money reference
for a grand in a 1g you can run 12's. Jay Haas ran a 12.5 with 700 bones in mods and I think he might have gotten down to 12.3.
a grand in a 2g you can run a mid 13

typical results for a grand in mods. 1g will run a mid 13, 2g a high 13.

racing the non turbo dsm's in a csvt is pointless. I raced a kid with a CAI, pacesetter header and some type of catback and kicked his ass pretty bad. And I like n/t's too

but damn they just aren't for racing.

P2 91 tsi awd, not stock P3 98 CSVT, stock

Nice one Steel!
I rode in my friends 1st gen gsx (awd) some mods and I will have to agree it will spank a NA csvt. Bend over take it and like it.
He now owns a 98 GTP. He said its slow as hell compaired to the GSX.
