Well mechanic called me this morning, surprise surprise its the fly wheel, he thinks it will be covered under my powertrain warranty. Waiting to here from the place I bought the car, mileage wise I am fine I am just hoping that they don't try to give me the screw around by saying its not part of the power train,. The lot where I bought it initally said it would be (thats when he thought it was the starter) The shop told me that it was part of the PT as well. Will wait for a call tommorrow..

My 87 Ford Ranger with over 300,000 Miles on it has had several starters and starter drives over its lifetime. The starter mounts were drilled to far away from the ring gear upon purchasing a new starter or starter drive I need to be sure that I purchase either starter drive or starter with starter drive that has one more tooth than normal or else I get the same problem that you have. Ring gear has not been replaced although well rounded off it still works well. Could this problem be the same?
