Why bother? It wouldn't be a pure Contour anymore too. Just get another RWD car!

Its not nay saying, and Orville and Wilbur invented something that didn't exist.
RWD cars, that are good, exist. Spending time and money on a Contour to make it RWD is a waste because there already are RWD cars. Good ones.
Sure, you can do it. Heck, put a 16 cyl. Detroit Deisel in one. That would be cool. Put three engines in it, that would be cool. Put the engine in the rear too. That would be Porche cool. Put six axles on it, that would be cool. Make a contour into a monster truck.....
Why would you spend significant time and money on a car, hoping to make it a copy of something else that already exists. I like mods that nake the car better, faster, etc. But making it a RWD car is a waste. It's the $50,000 answer to the $25,000 question.
The only way it makes sense is if you are in the business of building and modding cars and chassis. Doing something like this would show your fabrication skills. Otherwise, why would you do it?

Don't the mondeos in europe have the AWD? if so why can't we fabricate something that would accomadate to that? I know it would be somewhat costly, but who hear would not want to have an AWD car? I know I want one. And if I knew that the cost to 1st buy a mondeo, 2nd, ship it over to the U.S. was not that much(probably around the same price as making an AWD car) then I would have already done that.
Just my $.02

that was exactly the context in which we were discussing the potential of this upgrade. as an example of his skills and craftsmanship. in that case it could be done at a relatively low cost.

POP22 -
It has been done - there is a company in the UK that did a swap of an escort cossie derived RWD (may have been AWD now that I think about it ) Turbo Cossie motor in the Mondy-
It can be done - It HAS been done- and IIRC they only wanted 10K sterling for the conversion-

Did that include the engine, trans, parts, or is that just the labor?
I like the word only....
For only 10k, you can have a relatively inexpensive car turned into an expensive car. But the neat thing is, it will still look like an inexpensive car. And as reliable as the Contour is, it may be a little more unreliable. But don't worry, no one will be able to figure out what parts you need.
Sounds like a great plan to me...

They did it because the mondeo is already available with AWD as an option.
