I building my block and I have ARP head bolts and they are suppose to be torqued down to 60 ft pounds. THey told me to just go straight to the 60 ft pounds in the correct sequence. The thing that bothers me is the fact that there are no step ups to that point. I am not sure why they would suggest going straight to the torque yeild on one step. IS it just ARP studs and nuts that doesn't matter. I called them and they seem to not act like they care. I done more than 10 rngine rebuild but never with ARP bolts and never did it this way before. Thanks For the help.

I don't have much knowledge in this area, but 60 ft-lbs seems like a lot for an aluminum block. Is that how much the manuals call for torquing the stock head bolts?

Tourqe to yield bolts need to stretch, hence the three or four step process.

Well It calls for 60 ft pounds on the paper highlighted and also I called them and they said that was it. They are not torque to yield bolts that why I went with them but it just seemed strange to have one step.

Basically he's saying since they are not TTY, there is no need to torque them in stages. Since they don't stretch like most head bolts, they are re-usable. Sound logical? Makes sense to me.

The torque amount depends on the depth and the diameter of the studs or bolts. Those ARP head studs torque to 60ft pounds. You can do it in a couple of steps if you want. There is not harm either way. Just make sure that you use thier lube generously on the threads and the washers.

TTY bolts aside... I would still torque down in steps, being an aluminum block and heads. It just keeps everything a little flatter when seating up against the gaskets. You'd be surprised how much warpage you can cause taking one bolt down to full torque, then moving to the next bolt vs. doing them in steps.
