So I have the pannel to my door sitting in my room all weekend long and it get's me thinking.
I'm going to be putting a 6" and tweeter down there and I'd like them to not be blocked by solid plastic. Most of the grill is not perforated through.

I read in the archives that someone once brought up cutting up the factory grill and covering it in cloth. What about buying a 1/32 drill bit and perforating the rest of the holes (leaving the honey comb support). Could you buy a sheet of metal speaker grill material and form it to fit in the stock grill space.

There has got to be a better way to do this.

With the tweeter I'm going to get (the morel mdt39) I don't think surface mounting is an option, plus I don't want to hack up the doors. Right now I'm leaning towards drilling out the grill around the manual windo crank hole and mounting my tweeter behind there.

Any suggestions or ideas how to fix or replace that grill???

i was thinking the same thing in my previous post. I think that the resale value of the Contours is so abysmal anyway, why not play with that plastic grill...when someone buys the car, I would just leave the speakers in to justify the hole, or go to a junkyard and try to find a replacement panel..

I feel your pain. I'm about to head to the hardware store to see if I can pick up a 1/32 bit.
I'll let you know how drilling them out goes.

I did mine after I had been awake for over 40 hours, just after I got home from what was then Job #3. I was just way too tired and got in a hurry because I was starting to nod off.

Doh, I've been there many times. What size bit were you using to drill out the holes. 1/16 seem a little to big and sears and the hardware stored don't sell any smaller. I'm getting some 1/32 bit of the net pretty cheap though.

Actually, I don't have a good set of bits (they aren't labeled at all, they cost $2 at the dollar store) so I looked until one could poke through the hole then used that one shocked

My drill bit pokes through holes with no problem. Whether big or small, it always gets the job done laugh wink
