it depends on what $35,000 means to someone..

to some its the equivalent to $100,000

others its $10

We looked at the 3 series and G35
G35 the interior was waay tooo cheap!

3 series well a few sources like consumer reports etc..among others rated the new TL over the 3..
to me the TL competes more with the 5 series..thats how good it is.

I agree the interior on the G35 is definitely cheap. It seems to have fallen for the "metal looking" plastic fad that is so popular these days. If I am dropping serious coin on a car it has to have a better interior than my 8 year old Volvo (wood and leather everywhere). Luckily it appears that most of the European co's still believe in the wood and leather philisopy.

It's hard to compare the TL to 5-series when the driving dynamics aren't really the same. I'll give it to acura that the TL has been huge bang for the buck since day one, it's always just been driving the wrong wheels

270 HP is a bit much for FWD. At least in the "refined sedan" sense. Yes traction control can modulate torque steer but only by applying the brakes! I definately like the TL interior though. I think you'll be happy with your choice but.....

The G35 chassis dynamics are superb. I drove one for about 3 hours about 2 months ago. Z-car DNA as they say! BTW the mags have been putting G35 at the top of all comparos, equal to BMW handling, equal to better thrust, winning value. And the sedan is a looker(subjective)...as nice as 3 series, much nicer than Audi, or the TL (The coupe is flat out beautiful). If they would work on the interior a bit it would be nice, but for low 30s..hard to beat. Overrated????

As someone considering to buy the TL, I have looked at the G35, the BMW, the Audi, the Subaru, etc... All low 30k cars. The TL is at the top of the list in my opinion (despite what Car and Driver says). The BMW feels too removed for my tastes - it feels like a block of concrete on wheels. The Audi just isn't my style and they're everywhere. The Subaru is downright fast and AWD, but for 30k, you don't get the nice creature comforts the others provide.

Between the G35 and the TL, the only downside to the TL is the FWD vs RWD. This usually would be enough to dissuade me, but I like it better in every other aspect. The TL is much more comfortable. I also like the interior (and Stereo) better in the TL. As both don't seem to have an easily replaceable stereo, this does have an influence. The TL doesn't feel like a sedan, not when you sit in it and still not so much when you drive it. Ironically, there seems to be more legroom in the back of the TL than the G35. The TL is cheaper. As for the G35 coupe. Well, it's only a two door, more expensive, way too swank on the inside for my tastes, and very uncomfortable (the driver seat).

Just my two cents.

Considered the G35 Coupe only, the 4 door in my opinion is fugly to all ends. Its amazing how the same car can look so different in 2 and 4 door versions. G35 4 door vs TL 4 door..TL blew it away in my opinion. Now the G35 coupe is a beaut but only 2 doors..kind of defeats the sedan purpose.
