Don't cut off your fingers!
I make a scale drawing of the box together and then of all the pieces apart with the measurements next to them. Then, I determine the best way to cut the pieces out of the sheet of wood. But thats just me, I'm silly that way. I've still got drawings of boxes from 7 years ago.
