Originally posted by asigalet: I do not yet own, but am seeking a contour SVT. I looked at one this past weekend, a 1998 vin#1fafp68g2wk212783. This was produced at the end of 1997. The car only has 38000 kilometers, but the exterior needs help. It has been scraped(paint only) on the drivers side, and has scratches on the passenger side, and has not been washed or cleaned in a while. He is asking 16,750 Canadian, It is Black with a blue interior. My question is, What is it worth? Or should I even consider it?
So in our terms here in the US, that is 23,602 miles for $12,804.63. If the car is in poor exterior condition, I would say it's a safe bet that the rest of the car has also not been very well taken care of. That price seems more like a price that you would pay for a perfect condition car that has been stored most of it's life. Not only that, but it's also an early build 98 which means it's a little less power. I know it's not THAT big of a deal, and I would never turn one down just because of that, but it is one more bargaining tool that you could use. After just going through this process of finding an SVT, I would offer him a really low price and negotiate from there. Remember, your not out to make new friends, just to get the best deal that you can. There is nothing wrong with offering a lower price, you might just get lucky.
Just my $.02 worth.
