Those responses sound really fishy.

If a wire is "pinched" as they say, there should not be a problem unless they can prove that there was a break in the wire.

If a box is not matched to a paticular sub, you will only notice bad audio characteristics. If the sub doesn't work in that particular box, the only thing you should notice is that the sub would be beating itself to death. If that happens you will hear the all too apparant "cone slap" noise where the sub is actually bottoming out. Then after abusing the subs for a while, at low volume, you would be able to hear the noise of the coil in the sub giving up. It would sound like something was rattling in your sub.

Check also for the smell of cooked rubber. Tell tale sign of deceased sub.

It may be something as small as the wrong size push on connector on the sub and its falling off or is loose. Could also be a loose connector in the amp or the terminals on the speaker wires at the amp are loose.

I think that they may be trying to take you for a ride.
