Im gonna be going on a trip for FLA (from Toronto, Ontario) and I know my fluid is due for atleast a drain and fill. but I was wondering if it is advisable or discouraged to add in MOBIL 1 Syn ATF? I currently use MOBIL1 in the engine and I swear by the stuff. I hear nothing but horror stories about these trannies, and I want my baby to last alot longer than it has (over 185,000 km). 99 V6 SE (ATX)

Why not just check out the new CD4E FAQ thread that I have started. One thing that I will need to add in there, is the fact that Ford did not start recommending MerconV for the CD4E until the 2001 or 2002 models came out. That would leave all Contours using only DexronIII/Mercon.

Ford still does not recommend using Mercon V in current production CD4E transmissions (as used in the Escape). They specifically state that Mercon V should not be used.
By the way, there is no such thing as Mercon III. The confusion may lie in the fact that any fluid that mets Ford Mercon specs also meets General Motors Dexron specs. The current level of Dexron is Dexron III. Prior to that, there was Dexron, Dexron II, and Dexron IIE.

Jim, thanks for adding that bit of info. Oh yeah! Just so you'll know, I have a link to your Remote Trans Filter thread in the CD4E FAQ I started up there. Hince the reason I have taken it down. The other CD4E stickys will be coming down pretty soon as well.
