I am working on this, and will hopefully have it done in my LED tutorial. This is what I have found, the piece on the pre98 cars had a clear plastic ring, that lit up. post97 contours, have a black ring, that is impossible to light up. You have to go to the junk yard and take apart the pieces and do it. Its not fun work at all.
