I'm not looking for how much you pay, but does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for inexpensive auto insurance on a new car? (of course, places that the average person can use are preferable, i.e. not Marine Corp Veteran Auto)
Thanks for any help you can give.

I think cheap auto insurance is an oxy-moron. It all seems to be a giant rip-off if you ask me. The best you can do is shop around and try to get the best coverage you can.
Sometimes the best coverage, isn't the cheapest. You find that out when you have a claim.

I shop around every so often, since it is in one's best interest. The best way to have low cost insurance is to not speed or have any accidents. I have found one company though, that I have been with for a bit, and I like: Amica. I found them through: Lowermybills.com Sounds like a cheezy site, but it searches for you and gives you some options. Or you could always do a Progressive search. They actually do what they say and provide you with other companies as alternatives that you can check out as well. Another thing to help lower insurance costs is to have good credit. Most, if not all, insurance companies will run a credit check on you. I know Progressive does, so be careful about too many hard checks on your credit - it lowers your score. And to go along with fdunford - the cheapest isn't always the best. And some companies will not be of much help in the event of a claim/accident. Others are better than others, so check their ratings at places such as A.M. Best. Also, keep in mind that there other factors in addition to the ones mentioned above. Age, gender, and location all play a factor as does distance you drive to/from work/school, or whether or not your vehicle is for business purposes.
Yeah, I'm a troll...

well i know you weren't asking how much we pay, but i just changed from USAA (not so easy to get) to progressive. i didn't want to but i was paying 360 every month (not so great driving record but extremely good coverage). i went over to progressive with the same coverage (actually slightly better) and now i'm only paying 160 each month. however i know that if i get nailed with another ticket, i'm sure they'll drop some of my discounts and jack my premium up. take that for what it's worth tho

Definitely shop around, but getting people you can work with when you really need them is worth money. I prefer a company where you have an agent you work with as a personal representative of the company.
I started with State Farm because I inherited a policy with a accident free discount. I chose my agent because his office was around the corner from where I lived at the time. In the subsequent 8 years, I have moved 3 times, bought 3 cars, bought a house and I have never had to do more that stop in and and he takes care of everything while we talk. My sister had a policy with him several years back, and he still asks me how she is doing. My claims were handled flawlessly. My agent adds value to my insurance coverage. You should demand a company and an agent that is good enough to refer to others.
I have never beat their prices either in any quotes I have requested online, though I would gladly pay more for the service I have. With discounts, I am just under $100 a month.
Price is FAR from everything.

what he said- the Agent more than makes up for a bit more to pay -
(but my prices are WAY better than for anyone else - and I have a LOT of coverage- Ny agent was a neighbor and even though that doesnt get me better prices they treat me really well - state farm BTW - )

Insurance is expensive. My home insurance is $600 per year and my State Farm Auto Insurance cost $224 per year. State Farm is the Best. Don't confuse State Farm with Farmers _____ insurance. Farmers _______ insurance is the worst and they will use any excuse they can to avoid paying a claim.
